We are a group of songwriters who recorded the song as a demo, with the
intention that it would be performed for Charity by the likes of Robbie
Williams or Supergrass. We had an offer from one member of Duran
Duran but no record deal. Because of the big record companies impenetrability,
we decided to release our own version on the Internet, and it has
just started very well.
The song is ‘Coming Back For Moore’ and we are ‘The
Aunty Nancy League’. We have started to sell the first few hundred downloads
but it is growing daily. Our website is www.worldcupsong2006.com and features
an interview on our local radio station. National stations in England are
only interested in big record companies!
We have had some fantastic emails from the public which is on our website.
We also had an email from Neil Taylor (Robbie Williams guitarist) saying how
much he liked the song! A national newspaper put us on a short list
of songs most likely to do well at the World Cup. ‘wit of The
Kinks, energy of The Stranglers and lots of fun’.
Swedish manager Sven Goren Erickson gets knighted in the song which is a
tribute to Bobby Moore from 1966. The Bobby
Moore Fund is the Cancer
Charity we are supporting. There are friendly lighthearted references to Germany.
For example ‘England Uber Alles’ and a reference to Deutsch
Marks out of ten. ‘The Aunty Nancy League’ love Germany
and have many German friends.
Famously the team do not like their Official Song, but we believe they would
love ‘Coming Back For Moore’ if only they heard it. So we are sending
a DVD to their hotel in our favourite German town Baden-Baden.

I was searching on Google for decent football songs for our
children, they are into the England Groove and like the music. I
happened across links that led me to your song.

You really do remind me of a punk version of the Kinks!
Funny thing -- my 11-year-old son, Justin, was preparing a school research
project on soccer, a subject about which our family is passionate.
There was a music component to the project, and in looking up the songs
and chants for the various English teams, we discovered that virtually
all contained language that would shock his teacher (if not the class).
Then
we happened upon your song, which rocks, and we have been enjoying it very much
ever since. (It's great for getting the kids out of bed in the morning).
I
have now heard it about 30 times and my son has it completely memorized...."It's
